IPRC/IEP Checklist for Parents

Check that you have completed or received the following:

  • IPRC Referral & Initial Steps:
    • Was your child referred to the IPRC by you or the Principal?
    • Have you reviewed the resources and information on the DSAO EducAide website?
    • Did you receive the Board’s Guide to Special Education?
  • IPRC Meeting Preparation & Attendance:
    • Did you receive notice of the IPRC meeting at least 10 days in advance?
    • Did you attend the IPRC meeting?
  • IEP Development & Parental Involvement:
    • Were you consulted during the development of the Individual Education Plan (IEP)?
    • Were your child’s strengths and needs clearly listed?
    • Were you informed of all possible placement recommendations, including:
      • Regular class with indirect support
      • Regular class with resource assistance
      • Regular class with withdrawal assistance
      • Special education class with partial integration
      • Full-time special education class
    • Were you informed of special education services available through the Board, local community agencies, or other outside agencies?
  • IEP Approval & Appeal Process:
    • Did you sign the IEP?
    • If you did not sign the IEP, did you notify the Board of your intention to appeal?
    • Did you send a letter of appeal to the Board within 15 days of the IEP meeting?
  • Additional Support & Advocacy:
    • Did you contact the EducAide Hotline for assistance?
    • Did you select a representative to sit on the Board of Appeal on your behalf?
